We bring a bespoke process to each of our clients. We are selective about the clients take on in order to maximize our effectiveness with each. While each approach is unique, we work in three distinct phases: 1. Research and familiarize 2. Concept, curatorial, and strategy 3. Actualization

These three approaches can be applied to a wide variety of services such as:

Curatorial and Artist Relations: Nato Thompson brings a vast network of top-tier, mid-career and emerging artists to the table. His network and inside knowledge of what artists would be best suited for specific needs and the ability to connect clients to them is a major offering. He has wide expertise is in public art, digital art and cultural strategy.

Organizational Cultural Strategy: As the needs of audiences change as well as the nature of art itself, we work with organizations to think through both internal and external processes to adapt to the evolving conditions. The area of advisement can run the gamut of organizations needs such as programming, development and fundraising, community organization and relations, marketing and digital innovation.

1 on 1 artist and art collector consulting: We take on a few select artists and art enthusiasts to assist in the following categories: curatorial feedback, introductions to arts organizations, curators and critics, and art instruction.


Research and familiarize

With any project, to make an informed decision we must research the current trends in what is happening and combine that knowledge with the specificity of each situation. We get to know the sites, the constituents, the politics, the demographics, and the current artistic ideas that will shape the most impactful approach. We arrive at decisions through a careful consideration of context. We also work with our clients to workshop and identify their vision and needs so that we can manage expectations and deliver the best results.


Concept, Curatorial and Strategy

Our work is informed by a long tradition of delivering excellence. We not only believe in the power of art, we believe that the power of art combined with a talented administrative and strategic support unlock the public imagination. We bring a worldwide network of artists to the table at every level. This informal knowledge is not easy to come by and we do have it. From the most imaginative and visionary contemporary artists working today to the curators and directors of museums to arts writers to foundations, we deploy our roster of relationships in concert with a curatorial strategy to bring the best programs and direction for clients to meet their needs. Our approach combines brass tracks pragmatism with high end contemporary art. with a deep understanding of the various factors (fundraising, marketing, digital audiences, production, community relations, site management and more) to make an artist dream and institutional vision possible. We can work with a client to shape the goals of a project, match them with the budget and existing team and provide the map on how to land this. Making dreams possible is what we do.


ACTUALIZATION

The keys to actualization are always the same: time, money, team. Dreaming in Public can work on the actualization of projects, but generally these tasks are best done by those that control the three factors above. If an organization or individual is interested in having Dreaming in Public execute projects, we will put forward a scope of work, align on expectations and lay out a time table, budget and vision for meeting the clients’ needs. We believe that great art is not easy to make, but if one allows for the dreams of the artist to come through, and have a team that can professionally execute, the world is our oyster.
